About this grant

The NCDOT Multimodal Planning Grant Initiative funds municipalities and counties in North Carolina to develop comprehensive bicycle and/or pedestrian network plans. These plans set a vision for active transportation, identify priority projects, and help communities coordinate with regional planning organizations and NCDOT. The program is intended for local governments without an existing plan or whose plan is at least five years old.

Eligibility details

  • Notes: Municipalities and counties in North Carolina are eligible. Counties with a population of less than 100,000 may apply for a Stand-alone Bicycle Plan, Stand-alone Pedestrian Plan, Plan Update, or Multimodal Network Plan. Counties with a population greater than 100,000 are not eligible. Municipalities without existing fixed-route or deviated fixed-route transit service may pursue a bicycle or pedestrian network plan; those with transit service may pursue a multimodal network plan. Plans are typically for municipalities without an existing bicycle or pedestrian plan, or whose plan is at least five years old.
