About this grant

The North Carolina Arts Council's TAPS grants fund community organizations to run after-school programs that connect North Carolina students (ages 8-18) with local traditional artists. Students receive instruction in culturally rooted art forms such as string band music, carving, basket making, and storytelling. Grants support instructor pay, supplies, transportation, and administration, and require a 1:2 cash match (waived in Tier 1 counties).

Eligibility details

  • Notes: Community organizations such as arts councils, schools, and community centers that meet NCAC funding eligibility guidelines may serve as TAPS sponsor organizations. Local county arts councils often lead sponsorship. Organizations must receive an invitation to submit an application; interested organizations should contact Folklife Program Director Zoe van Buren. Programs must serve students aged 8 to 18, maintain a minimum of 20 students, meet at least 30 hours per year, and provide a 1:2 cash match (waived in Tier 1 counties).
