About this grant

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides federal funds to states, territories, tribal governments, and certain private non-profits to reduce or eliminate future risk to lives and property from natural hazards following a major federal disaster declaration. Eligible projects include property acquisitions, drainage and culvert improvements, slope stabilization, infrastructure protection, stormwater projects, wildfire mitigation, warning sirens, seismic and wind retrofits, structure elevations, and mitigation plan updates. The program is competitive statewide and authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.
