About this grant

The Community Opportunities Grant Program, run by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, provides flexible funding to respond to emerging opportunities and unforeseen crises for nonprofits in northern Illinois. It supports emergency needs that impact an organization's ability to serve clients, time-sensitive opportunities benefiting a broad constituency, and opportunities to leverage matching grant dollars.

Eligibility details

  • Notes: Open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits providing charitable services to Boone, Ogle, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties in northern Illinois. Proposals must meet one or more criteria: an emergency immediately impacting the organization's ability to serve clients (funding must solve the crisis; not for standard operating expenses); an unforeseen, time-sensitive opportunity benefiting a broad constituency beyond the applying organization and its clients; or an opportunity to leverage matching grant dollars for a charitable activity. Organizations can receive one Community Opportunities grant annually and may not apply in two consecutive years. All applications are subject to CFNIL's Community Grant Eligibility and Requirements guidelines. Grants are unavailable for funding losses. Applicants should first contact Lisa DeLang at edelang@cfnil.org or (779) 210-8210 to discuss their proposal.
