About this grant
The North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office sets aside at least 10% of its federal Historic Preservation Fund allocation for Certified Local Governments (CLGs) to compete for matching grants. Funds support survey, planning, pre-development, and development activities such as architectural or archaeological surveys, National Register nominations, preservation planning, design guidelines, and feasibility studies. Grants require a 60/40 match and are awarded competitively.

A government must have an active, legally adequate historic preservation commission, meet federal certification requirements, and must have satisfactorily functioned as a CLG for one year before becoming eligible for grant funds.
