About this grant

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation's Emergency Scholarship Fund provides up to $5,000 to help post-secondary students cover unexpected educational costs such as overdue tuition, required textbooks, certification testing fees, or other critical expenses that might otherwise prevent them from completing their degree or credential. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with a monthly budget, and the application remains open until funds are exhausted for the month.

Eligibility details

  • Notes: Open to any Kalamazoo County resident pursuing post-secondary education (including GED students and those just enrolling). Applicants must demonstrate an educational emergency, such as an expense they cannot cover that would cause them to stop attending school, lack necessary course materials, or lose their job due to lack of skills/certifications. Current KZCF scholarship recipients are eligible, and students do not need to be current KZCF recipients. High school students taking college courses and non-educational expenses (e.g., rental assistance, personal bills) are not covered.
